  • Overview

    The Director of Resident Care is to ensure the highest degree of quality care is delivered at all times. This person will be responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the nursing service department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility, and as directed by the Administrator and the Medical Director.



    Provide quality nursing care to residents in an environment which promotes their rights, dignity, freedom of choice, and their individuality as illustrated by the following:

    • Ensure an environment which encourages each resident's/client’s ability to maintain or attain the highest level of independence and physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being
    • Communicate and interact effectively and tactfully with the resident/client, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors
    • Interpretation and adherence of the policies and procedures for the personnel, patients, medical staff and public
    • Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Administrator, as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the nursing service department
    • Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing quality assurance program for the nursing service department and a Quality Assessment and Assurance Committee to develop and implement appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies and assure best research based practice
    • Facilitate nursing department survey process (inspections) made by authorized government agencies
    • Ensure the electronic medical record (EMR) conversion is efficient, appropriately utilized and secured by nursing end users
    • Determine the staffing needs of the nursing service department necessary to meet the total nursing needs of the residents and collaborate with the scheduler/HR to ensure these are consistently met
    • Share in the 24 hour on-call availability to nursing department supervisors to provide guidance in unusual situations
    • Delegate to the nursing service supervisory personnel the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to perform their assigned duties
    • Develop and maintain a good rapport with interdisciplinary care team to ensure that a team effort is achieved in developing and carrying out a comprehensive plan of care



    • Successful completion of an accredited Registered Nursing program; currently licensed by the State of Michigan Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree preferred
    • Minimum five (5) years in the nursing field with a successful work history in a Skilled Nursing Facility post-acute care setting
    • 1 year post-acute care management preferred
